Have told them that through my PLLs I pay attention to their magazine, I received an answer after mounths: "received something from 2015 can you send it in again, which is not answered." Does it make sense to respond?

Guys and Yls,
Just a reminder, the Perseid Meteor shower is peaking this weekend.
https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/meteor-shower/perseid.html

Maximum will probably be around the night of the 12th but should be getting better as we approach that time.

Some years back I was part of a meter wave (49.98 MHz) radar experiment for NASA during the shower and we had some great ionization trails as we approached peak.

Those of us with 6 meter capability might pay a bit of attention to the 50 MHz band.

We could get some interesting propagation.
Also, for you non-astronomy types, remember that the meteors keep coming during daylight as well; we just can see them.

Best rates tend to be from mid-night to noon because of earth orbital motion and orientation. But a flurry of events can occur at any time.

[skcc] Favorite Sideswiper Key

I switched it to cootie and have never switched it back to sideswiper.
Jeff

Hi Jeff
Um, a cootie and a sideswiper are the same thing!
73, Art, W2NRA 11634S
Well then Begali has it all wrong.

The switch says Sideswiper to run it through a keyer.

The other position says Cootie to use without a keyer.

It doesnt really matter though as I have a Grand Master keyer I bought in working condition with a memory remote added as well as a switch so it could be connected to 5 radios.

Got it for 5 buck at Ft Wayne hamfest.
Never hooked it up.

It sits on the desk.

More as an ornament than anything.

I did power it up once, it does work.
Jeffrey Gray

Jeffrey

Well, you are misreading what Begali wrote:
Quote: “The switch at the back of the base on the HST II ( that’s been moved on the left with the Mark HST III evolution) lets you choose between single lever mode or sideswiper (Cootie) mode ...”
Note where the “OR” is.

[skcc] Another plus for CW I found this interesting and I smiled:
https://blog.google/products/search/making-morse-code-available-more-people-gboard/

Jim W4QO 1281T

No doubt that being able to type any word with just two keys (dot and dash) would be immensely useful to people of limited mobility.
I did try the Android Morse code entry app a while back; not sure if it was Gboard, or what, but the main problem with it was the latency between the time you touch the buttons on the screren and the time the phone responds.

It was only a fraction of a second but for tapping out morse code at a good clip it seemed kind of limited.

Maybe I just didn't practice enough or maybe it was just a low level limitation of my phone.
Actually I was swiping more than tapping.

It would have been fun if the touch response was instantaneous.

Maybe I'll try the improved Morse code on Gboard for Android that they mentioned in the article and see if it's any better...

[skcc] Amateur radio on TV

At 3 pm EDT today Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is showing a short feature (10 min.) about amateur radio entitled "Radio Hams".

The feature is from 1939.

Could be fun to watch.

[N1MMLoggerPlus] Very Low Bandwidth Remote Spectrum Display using N1MM+ and AirSpy HF+

Attached is a document describing how to do this.

I operate two Internet Remotes regularly, and having a spectrum display from the remote has been a huge want.

Tom's ingenious implementation of the remote spectrum display makes this possible over low bandwidth DSL lines.

It works great!

[skcc] New I1QOD Magnetic Sideswiper

Just discovered that Alberto Frattini is crafting a new model sideswiper in addition to the Maniflex.

It’s a beautiful key.

And is built to preserve the “soft landing” in an interesting way.

A Key is Born ( and it's a Sideswiper

Hello Straight Key Century Club Members,
With all the recent interest in Sideswiper operations, LNR Precision and the Straight Key Century Club have joined in what we hope will be yet another way to keep plenty of Morse code on the air with even more ways for SKCC members to enjoy manually generated Morse Code.
Since the Sideswiper is an accepted device for SKCC operation and awards.

We at LNR Precsion Inc. have decided to produce an official SKCC Sideswiper for the membership with the approval of the Board of Directors.
Keep an eye on the reflector for updates as we finalize the “SKCC Liberty Key”
The Sideswiper will be outfitted in SKCC colors and logo so keep your eye on the Groups.io page for updates.

A beta model has been tested and final material acquisition and production should start soon.
I'll post photos when available but the present stats are:
4" x 3.125" x .5" Blue powder coated steel base with SKCC logo. (approx. 24oz-28oz)

Silver anodized hardware, Hardened steel blade.(Maybe a simulated hacksaw look).
Present year Liberty penny in finger piece. (hence the name "Liberty Key)
Size and shape of finger piece yet to be determined.

[N1MMLoggerPlus] N1MM+ with Athena

We use it at Field Day every year to track multi station results in real time. Be aware that older versions of Athena are incompatible with the new N1MM database format. You need the last one, and it can be hard to find as it is no longer maintained and most of the links to the author are broken and the author is a Silent Key. If you need it, I think I have a friend with the current copy.
73, Drew K3PA

I have a link to the last version of Athena on my contesting page of my website-
